I am the manager for personal tax compliance, probate & estate administration and payroll.

Career Rundown

After leaving university I got my first job working for Abbey National Plc. This provided me with great experience of dealing with people and money inside a big organisation. It also helped me secure a Trainee Accountant position in 1998 with Brewers Chartered Accountants in Cranleigh, Surrey. After spending a few years preparing accounts and being involved with audit work I then made the move into personal tax. I qualified with Brewers as an ACCA accountant in 2002.

In 2003 I joined RPD as a Personal Tax Senior within the tax department and looked after a large portfolio of clients. This continued over the years until I became a Tax Manager and I then oversaw the work of a few team members. In 2015 I was promoted to the position of Client Manager and took on further responsibility within the Firm. Also during this year, I became authorised by the ICAEW to carry out probate and estate administration work and now look after this area for the Firm.

Achievements within your professional life you are particularly proud of

Passing my ACCA exams and becoming a qualified accountant. Passing the exam for Probate and Estate Administration and becoming an authorised individual with the ICAEW. Being involved in the recruitment and training of staff and seeing them develop into competent accountants.

What would you be if you weren’t an accountant?

I would be a sitcom writer. I enjoy the mechanics of how a script is put together, and the idea of gazing out of the window for a few hours while thinking, and actually getting to call it work, is very appealing.

What did you want to be “when you grew up”?

As a pre-teen, I wanted to be an actor. In my late teens, I wanted to be a special effects artist. In my thirties, I started to get involved in script writing. You will notice there is a bit of an entertainment theme here.

What makes you laugh?

Classic sitcoms such as The Young Ones, Bottom, Fawlty Towers and Yes Minister to name but a few.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have a number of hobbies. I enjoy writing situation comedy scripts. I am a big fan of horror films and watch as many as I can. I am interested in strange mysteries and the supernatural and read a lot in this area. I am also a big video games fan and can often be found sitting in front of the latest games console.

One thing that you learned at school that has helped you in your professional life

Ensure your Nike trainers are black. This way it is harder for the teacher to see if you are actually wearing shoes or not. This always helps to avoid a detention.
